Kayaking Adventure

Are you up for something a little different?

Create your own kayak adventure starting with a kayak rental from FMB FlyBoard located at Getaway Marina, Fort Myers Beach.  Their equipment is clean and in good condition. They have this wonderful floating dock to launch you on your way eliminating embarrassing moments as you try to enter the kayak gracefully.  The staff is very helpful and knowledge offering guidance for your adventure.  A waterproof map helps confirm your plan.

Lots of options – hang out in the back bay and view various birds and possibly dolphins and manatees. Try making your way to the Gulf with a stop at Bunche Beach. Navigate a peaceful canal and enjoy exploring a mangrove tunnel. There is truly something for everyone’s enjoyment – whether serenity is the goal or some excitement, open water or shade.

I enjoyed a couple of hours on the water in summer with my adventure buddy, Mary Murray. There was quite a nice cooling breeze and tide to make the paddling easy.  We witnessed the horseshoe crab mating ritual at Bunche Beach and a convocation of mangrove crabs in the mangrove tunnel. We spied a dolphin fishing in the bay as well as fish jumping for joy. An osprey watched our progress from a great vantage point allowing us a good look at him as well. We had a view of some egrets and a green heron doing what they do.

When we were ready to return, staff was waiting for us and actually pulled our kayaks up on the floating dock and then helped us out of our kayaks maintaining our dignity.  We loved it.

I only wish I had been brave enough to bring along the camera. There were some great photo ops.

Homemade ice cream at The Love Boat was a perfect ending for our outing.
